Proposed amendments to the Granville Historical Society's Constitution will be presented during our monthly program on October 9th at 7 p.m. in the Robinson Research Center.
At the beginning of the October 9th presentation about the Newark Earthworks, GHS Board Members will present an initial reading of proposed amendments to the Granville Historical Society's Constitution. This is the initial reading of the amendments which will be up for a vote from General Members of the GHS during the General Membership Meeting on November 13th.
Summary of Proposed Amendments
1. Rename the Board of Managers the Board of Trustees.
2. Create the officer position of "Immediate Past President".
3. Establish an Executive Committee to consist of the President, Vice President, Immediate Past President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
4. Expand the term of office of the President, Vice President, and Immediate Past President from one year to two years.
5. Clarify that the President become the Immediate Past President upon the completion of their term as President. If there is a vacancy in the position of the Immediate Past President the remainder of the term will not be filled.
6. If there is a vacancy in the position of the Vice President than the Nominating Committee shall nominate a replacement to the Board of Trustees. The nominee must be approved by a majority of the Board of Trustees to complete the term.
7. Eliminate term limits for the Treasurer and Board of Trustee Members.
8. Clarify that Board of Trustee Members are subject to confirmation by the general membership every three years.
9. Add “Domestic Partner of a Board Member" to the list of individuals who are ineligible for nomination to the Board of Trustees.
10. Remove the requirement that each Board Member must chair a committee and clarify that only Board Members can chair standing committees.
11. Enhance the process of filling vacancies on the Board of Trustees by using the Nominating Committee to review possible candidates with Board approval.
12. Adjust the membership of the Nominating Committee by removing the Secretary and adding the Vice President and an additional general member of the organization.
