Event: Postcards of Granville

  • Kendal at Granville 2158 Columbus Road Granville, OH, 43023 United States (map)

Steven Katz and Constance Barsky have been collecting postcards of Granville since the early 1980s. When they first found a few postcards in an antique store, they thought it might be nice to collect them. There must be a few dozen, they suspected. Their collection now numbers over 400! In their presentation they will share some of the more interesting ones and present many of the views which show the same scene from different directions and in different times. Many of the post cards are hand water-colored. And some of the messages are interesting to read, too. They promise not to show ALL 400!

Constance had gone to Denison in the 1960s and always thought of Granville as a nice town to retire to someday. The opportunity to come here was 11 years after graduation, in 1977 when they both worked at Owens-Coming's Technical Center. Steven and Constance bought and restored the historic George T. Jones House on Elm Street, where they lived for nearly 35 years. It was a Bed and Breakfast for 29 years, and housed the couples extensive collection of antique music boxes and phonographs. Constance was active for 12 years on the Village Council and the last four years as Vice Mayor. The couple has retired to Kendal at Granville and now enjoy the excellent social life among residents there.
